Want to help businesses and individuals hurt by Hurricane Sandy? Here's how to get involved

If you and your company want to help other small businesses in the tri-state area who were affected by the storm, there are many ways you can offer your money, your time, or your services.

 

Donations

According to the IRS, employees can donate leave to Hurricane Sandy victims and employers can deduct their donations as charitable contributions. Find out more here.

 

New York Cares has a list of where to donate funds as well as goods to those in need. 

 

FEMA has a comprehensive list of where – and how – to donate.

 

You can donate to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Food Bank for New York City, Island Harvest, Save the Children, United Way, and Feeding America.

 

NYC Service also has a comprehensive list of places to donate to communities in need.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

New York Cares has a list of Hurricane Sandy-specific volunteer opportunities, and they’re filling up quickly.

Offer Your Business’s Services

If you have a coworking space available or tech services you can offer to businesses in need, visit New York Tech Responds.

 

If your company can offer its services in New York City, visit NYCEDC to fill out an application to help those in need. 

 

You can also visit FEMA’s Hurricane Sandy Rumor Control to debunk rumors you’ve heard about Hurricane Sandy, or report suspected disaster fraud to the National Center for Disaster Fraud’s hotline by calling (866) 720-5721.
