Are you a bad boss but don’t know it? What do you think of when you think of horrible bosses? Typically, adjectives like “tyrant,” “control freak,” and “belittling” come to mind. But these are no longer the only versions of bad bosses.

There are the modern day bad boss actions that were recently featured in a very good Harvard Business Review blog, “Are You Sure You’re Not a Bad Boss?” This article sites extensive research, illustrating that 80 percent of bad bosses do things that leaders don’t do. That research reveals bad bosses exhibit:

•           A failure to inspire, owing to a lack of energy and enthusiasm

•           Acceptance of mediocre performance in place of excellent results

•           A lack of clear vision and direction

•           A failure to walk the talk

•           A failure to develop others
